Visitors

Hyper News runs no advertising and loads nothing from other sites: no analytics, no outside fonts, no trackers. The server does not keep a log of visits or of visitors' addresses. A visitor who does not sign in gets no cookie at all.

Accounts

An account is optional. It lets Hyper News keep how you arrange the site: where the panels are, what the map shows and where it was, the filters you chose and the theme. For an account we keep your email address, your name if you give one, your password only in a scrambled form (an Argon2id hash) that cannot be turned back into the password, those settings, and when you last signed in. We use them only to run your account; we do not send you email and do not share them with anyone.

If you change the front page's panels without signing in (which panels show, where they are, how each behaves), your browser keeps that choice itself, in its local storage, so the page looks the same next time. It is never sent to Hyper News, and clearing the site's data in your browser removes it.

Signing in sets one cookie, which keeps you signed in on that browser for up to six months; only a scrambled form of it is kept on the server. Signing out ends it. You can delete the account at any time in Your settings; that deletes everything kept for it at once.

Pages and the map of hyper-news.com are delivered for us by Amazon CloudFront, from servers near you, so they load faster. Like any network that carries your request, it sees your address on the internet and the page you ask for. Its visitor logs are turned off, and we receive none.

The correction form

If you send a message through the correction form, we keep the page, what you wrote and, only if you give it, a way to reach you. We use it only to deal with your message and delete it within a year. Your address on the internet is not stored with it.

People in the news

Hyper News is about events, not people. It does not show the names of private people, even when news reports name them; it keeps only the counts. Public figures (officials, politicians, well-known people with an entry in Wikidata) can be listed by name with a link to Wikidata. Names are taken off the site on request: use the correction form and choose "Remove a name or personal information".

Reading the news

Our reader, HyperNewsBot, fetches reports to count what they say. It keeps the text only as long as needed to read it again after a fix (at most 30 days), never shows it, and keeps afterwards only the counts and a link. About HyperNewsBot.
